Kent State Marks 40th Anniversary Of Shootings
KENT, Ohio — Forty springs ago, on the day the Vietnam War came home as it never had before, Mary Ann Vecchio was there. She's the girl in the haunting photo — crying, kneeling over the student's body. That was Kent State University, May 4th, 1970, a few days after Richard Nixon, who'd campaigned for president on an implicit promise to end the war, widened it by invading Cambodia. Across the nation, students protested. At Kent State, where two days earlier the ROTC building was burned down, National Guardsmen fired into a crowd and killed four unarmed students, the closest of whom was nearly a football field away. --------------------------- Video from AssociatedPress — May 3rd, 2010 "Kent State University is marking the 40th anniversary of the Kent State shootings this week. (May 4th, 1970) ----------------------- One correction to video: It was not just Nixon expanding the war into Cambodia -- it was the shocking revelation that Nixon had been bombing Cambodia for over a year and covering it up, lying about it. Some folks think it's wrong for their government to be killing people, expanding a war, and lying about it, covering it up. Deputy Kyle Dinkheller Shot to Death - (Warning Graphic Video)
The video from January 1998 is a dash cam recording of what started as a routine traffic stop but resulted in death of a deputy officer. Deputy Kyle Dinkheller pulled over a truck on a range road 6 miles north of Dublin, Georgia. The man who got out of truck acted weird so Deputy Kyle Dinkheller called in for back up. Before the backup could arrive, the man from the truck pulled out a 30 caliber rifle and went straight towards the officer firing live shots at him. Deputy Kyle Dinkheller returned fire and wounded the culprit by a shot in the abdomen, but sustained severe, life threatening shots that later claimed his life. Suspect was apprehended the following morning and was sentenced to death in a trial a year later. He’s on death row waiting to be executed. Police Officer Shooting Driver Caught On Dashcam
A fatal shooting of a driver by a police officer was caught on tape in northern Minnesota. The dashcam video shows Minnesota State Patrol Trooper Bryan Carey talking with a driver in November. Carey wound up breaking the window and firing seven times. He said the driver refused to get out and pulled a gun. The driver died as a result of his injuries, authorities said. A report released this week cleared the trooper of wrongdoing and called the shooting justified. Authorities said the driver, Ronald Hannuksela, 50, was wanted on several warrants. Carey had recognized Hannuksela and pulled him over, police said
