Press Release: OCCUPY EVANSVILLE SHEDS LIGHT ON VECTREN GREED Vectren Should Pull the Plug on Proposed Rate Increase, Says Group Evansville, In. -- Under a banner reading Occupy Evansville, a group of around 20 concerned citizens converged in the food court at Eastland Mall this afternoon to conduct a ‘mic check’ – speaking in unison to project their message -- in a show of opposition to Vectren Corporation’s renewed efforts to increase energy rates for southern Indiana residents. The group asked shoppers to tell state regulators the rate hike would be unfair to local residents who already pay nearly three times more than most Indiana residents. If Vectren’s proposal is accepted, customers in Evansville and six other counties would be charged an extra $1.08 in monthly fees. According to recent reports, the Indiana Utility Consumer Counselor is recommending that this charge not be passed on to citizens who already endured rate hikes earlier in the year. Occupy Evansville seeks to end the influence of big banks and corporations on the government, asserting that our government no longer represents the best interests of the people due to the overwhelming influence of money on the political process. The group hopes to unite the voices of Evansville citizens against such corruption. Video footage of today’s event can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ez5B3p8MsdU&feature=youtu.be .
