    • Salam For The New Year

"Reason is powerless in the expression of Love"-Rumi Happy awal muharam! :) New Year Greetings! "Peace be upon you!" In honor of Al-Hijra...The Islamic New Year 1431, and the New Year of 2010 I thought now might be a good time to create a video celebrating the humanity and universal virtues we all share. Like other Abrahamic faiths and spiritual belief systems true Muslims believe in brotherhood, justice, peace, virtuous acts and dialoge among nations and peoples. I wish all good people in our community the best of health, good fortune, and happiness in the year to come. Let us create bridges for unity, dialogue and peaceful co-existence in our region, country and world. May this year be one of change, for the better. United we stand. Remember Neda. Pray for those we love far away. Love One Another. Peace and God Bless us, every One! Features the songs (nasheeds) 'Life-What a Blessed Thing' and 'Meditation' by Zain Bhikha Some Info on Islam and the Holiday Al-Hijra, is the first day of the month of Muharram. It is one of the four months of the year in which fighting is prohibited. Since the Islamic calendar is lunar, Muharram moves from year to year when compared with the Gregorian calendar. It marks the Hijra (or Hegira) migration in 622 of Mohammad and his followers from Mecca to Medina. The date marks the beginning of Islam as a community in which spiritual and earthly life were completely integrated. There is no specific religious rituals required on this day, but Muslims will think about the general meaning of Hijra, and regard this as a good time for 'New Year Resolutions'. The Muslim calendar counts dates from the Hijra, which is why Muslim dates have the suffix A.H. (After Hijra). Islam began in Arabia and was revealed in its final form by the Prophet Muhammad. Those who follow Islam are called Muslims. Muslims believe that there is only one God. The Arabic word for God is Allah. Islam is now the second most popular religion on the planet with more than a billion followers.
